ACDEMY INFO 2010
Very Important please read all of it.

Happy New 2010!  I wanted to send out a message to all returning families and all potentially new families of the Academy program offered by NWTA.  There are going to be some changes to the format of the program this year that I believe will benefit all participants, and staff.  A few of the things that we have noticed over the last two years are the difference in development from one team to the next.  We have also come to realize not all of the expenses have been covered, so there have been a few tweaks to the cost, which are explained later. One other new change is the introduction of a Senior Academy to the program this year which will cover U13 & U14 teams.  That said, it is expected that players who are part of the NWSA/NWTA Academy programs will be involved in both Spring and Fall seasons and will make that commitment.  This is not looked at as a “one season deal”. Due to the limited number of roster spots available, it is imperative that each player and their parent have a sincere understanding and devotion for the academy program.  Failure to attend practices and matches places an unfair and unnecessary burden on the players who attend on a regular basis and their parents who have made financial and time commitments.

New players to the program will receive training to bring them up to speed with the rest of the team.

ACADEMY OVERVIEW

Training this spring will be different then it has in the past.  The Academy Dir. will be running all of the training sessions. The coaches of the teams will be working hand in hand with the director to help develop the players so that they can get the best out of the program.  Coaches will be helping assist the director during the training sessions.  If the director is not available for a session or for a weekend game then the coach will step right in to help out so that the team won’t miss a beat.

In August we will continue this format for the first couple of weeks and then the coach will take over the team to prepare them for fall season.  After that all academy teams will train with the director on a weekly or a biweekly basis on Friday nights through the middle of Nov.  More specific information will be given out as teams are formed.

Development Teams (U10)

U10 teams will now be known as the development teams.  This is where the development will start; the focus will be on individual control of the ball and working as a team.  These teams will play in the Whidbey Island Soccer League in the spring and possibly in the fall.  We are working on playing in the US Club development league this fall.  Tournaments that they will participate in are the Rock On 3v3 (May), Port Orchard (Aug), Whidbey Island Summer Bash (Aug), Mukilteo Turkey Shoot (Nov), Island Ice Breaker (Dec).

Technical, Tactical, & Senior Teams (U11, U12, U13, U14)

1.        U11 Teams will be referred to as Technical Academy program.  Technical play will be the main focus for this age group, and introduction to tactics and combination play

2.        U12 Teams will be referred to as Tactical Academy Program. Fine tuning technical play, tactics and team are the focus.  Players will be working on technical tactics, advanced combination play, and tactics with in the game.

3.        U13 and U14 will be referred to as the Senior Academy Program.  Senior program will be fine tuning what was learned before, and will be introduced to functional training.

All three groups above will participate in the WISL Spring league, and then will play in District 1 for the fall season.  Tournaments that the teams will participate in are: Rock On 3v3 (May), Baker Blast or Sims Honda Skagit tournament (June), Snohomish Bigfoot (Aug), Island Summer Bash (Aug), Skagit Labor Day (Sept), & Ice Breaker (Dec)

Cost

Northwest Training Academy has developed the Academy programs to provide quality instruction at a very reasonable cost, providing the best value for soccer in the area.  The NWTA Academy consists of a 9 month commitment by the family of each player.  This 9 month commitment is divided into 2 seasons, spring season is 4 months, and fall will be 4.5 to 5 months.  The fees are broken down below:

·         $170 initial fee to the NWSC club which will cover, Uniform (2 jerseys, 1 short, 2 pr of socks, & training pants all Adidas brand), Referee fees, State Insurance, WIYSA, & NWSC Fees

·         U10 players will pay $35 a month which will cover training and tournaments.

·         U11 players will pay $43 a month which will cover training and tournaments.

·         U12 - U14 teams will pay $40 a month which will cover training and tournaments.

·         Reason for the different month cost is due to price of tournaments, and roster sizes.
